Deceased Name: EDWIN SHERMAN LEVEY

Edwin Levey, 75, of Duluth, passed away March 18, 2009, in St. Paul.

 

He was born Dec. 3, 1933 in Duluth, to David and Marian Levey.

 

Upon graduation from Duluth Central High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where his tour of duty took him to Fairbanks, Alaska. Returning to Duluth, he joined his family's business, Central Auto Parts. Years later he became the principal owner, operating in numerous locations in Duluth. Ed also was involved in other local business over the years.

 

Ed was extensively involved in the Duluth Jewish Community, serving as a board member and president of several of its organizations as well as serving on the board of directors at Spirit Mountain.

 

Ed and his extended family enjoyed time on Person Lake, boating, snowmobiling and off-road riding. As a younger man, Ed was an active city bowler in many leagues. In addition Ed supported the local auto racing community and sponsored many race cars. Ed never passed up a card game with his many poker-playing buddies.

 

Ed was preceded in death by his parents.

 

He is survived by his son, Steven (Susan) Levey; and daughter, Diane (Richard) Roeser of St. Paul; grandchildren, Rebecca and Samuel Levey, Mitchell and Danelle Roeser, all of St. Paul; brothers, Jerome Levey, Portland, Ore., and Richard (Bea) Duluth; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephew.

 

SERVICE: 11 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2009 in Temple Israel, 1602 E 2nd Street, Duluth. Burial immediately following the service.
